Useless Robot
The ERSS-45Hi’s wheels clattered over uneven ground. Occasionally, an animal crossed its path, and branches scratched its dirty casing. The asphalt patches in the grass, metal structures, and broken ERSS-45Hi robots, barely visible in the grass and bushes, were all that remained of New York centuries later.
Although the alarm on the robot’s solar battery had been beeping constantly for months, it had never veered from its pre-programmed route until now. Its wheels wheezed and jammed, and the little light on its screen went out. And with it, the last human attempt at salvation. Earth barely noticed.
